Art At Home - Mosaics

A mosaic is a picture made of a lot of tiny parts.

Mosaics were originally made out of tiles, but artists today make mosaics out of many things!  You can make a mosaic at home using things found in your kitchen.

- Dried beans
- Uncooked pasta (there are so many different shapes)
- Crushed egg shells

Here Seth is making a Pokemon bean mosaic!
He can fill in his background with more beans, or color it.

All you need is
- glue
- cardboard or thick paper
- beans, pasta, peas, eggshells...

If you don't want to glue yours down, you can just create a picture on a piece of felt, paper, or even a paper towel, then shake it off and start again.

This mosaic is using pasta, peas and beans.
What is this a picture of?

In this cartoon Jasper needs art he can take home with him in the ocean.

Bees and Butterflies - Pollinator Pals

This time of year you may have noticed a yellow powder on your car or tables outside. That powder is called Pollen.

We would not have fruit to eat or beautiful flowers to see without pollen.

Pollinators are animals or insects that spread the pollen around to all the plants.

Some of the best pollinators are Bees and Butterflies.

Pollinators like bees and butterflies may seem small, but they are very important for keeping things growing and our planet healthy! This week we will celebrate our pollinator pals with some bees and butterfly inspired art!

Here is an easy way to make a butterfly feeder

Here is a way to make a bee out of a can (you will need a grownup to help you)
This was found in your local newspaper, Leader

Make a Bee Hotel to play with

Make a Butterfly out of leaves and a stick

Or use your imagination! How could YOU create a Bee or a Butterfly?

Handmade Clay - Making a Pinch Pot

2 Ingredient
Air Dry Clay

Artists are very creative people and can come up with lots of ways to make art, even if they don't have a lot of supplies.

Have you ever used something that isn't an art supply to make art? Maybe cardboard, masking tape, a sock, leaves...

This week we can explore that idea by making our very own clay! The best part is it only uses 2 ingredients that many people have at home, Flour and Hair Conditioner. Watch this video...

Recipe:
1/2 cup Flour (or cornstarch)
4 Tbl. Hair conditioner (or lotion)

If you enjoyed this activity, there are many other recipes for making clay. I found several by doing a search for 'air dry clay'.

Don't forget to share pictures of your creations on our Facebook Page!
