Drawing to Music-Art at Home

Drawing to Music

Music is part of our lives. Music can connect us to our feelings, it can comfort, entertain, relax or energize us! Sometimes artists get their inspiration to make art from listening to music.

In this lesson you are going choose a piece of music, listen to it, and create a piece of art inspired by the sounds and the feeling of the music.

1. Set out any drawing materials you have around the house.
(pencil, paper, crayons, pens, markers, etc.)

2. Choose a piece of music from the three musical pieces below.

3. Close your eyes and LISTEN to the music for one minute.

4. Ask your child: What did you notice? Did the music make you think of a story? How did the music feel? Did it remind you of any colors?

5. Restart the same piece of music and draw!

Variations: Try painting to music, or have your child choose one of his or her favorite songs for the music!

Puppets- Art at Home Week 5

Puppets are fun to make and great for imaginative play.

You can make puppets many ways!

First, you will need to decide what kind of puppet you want to make.

  • What kind of materials will you use?
  • Is it an animal, human, machine, or creature?

You can name your puppet, and think of how you might like to use your puppet.

Some suggestions:
Your puppet can sing a song to your family!
Your puppet can tell jokes!
You can use your puppet to read to your younger sibling, or a pet!
You can create several puppets, plan, and perform a puppet show!

Architecture at Home-Week 4

Architecture!

Architecture is the art of designing buildings. An architect is an artist who designs buildings and bridges.
How many different types of buildings can you name? (ex. schools, houses, restaurants ...)

Iggy Peck Architect is a great book to help understand more about architecture. Listen to it here.

How can I explore Architecture at home?

Architects often design their buildings on paper first, what if you made a drawing of your building?

Click below for a video demonstration:

More ways to explore Architecture:
Last week the lesson was to go on a scavenger hunt to find lots of different materials and objects you could use to create a sculpture. Many of those items could also be used to build with for architecture.

You do not have to attach them together if you don't want. Sometimes it's fun to knock it down and start again in a different way.

Found materials to build with...

Look what they made!

Anything you can stack, could be a building supply

A p;[box could be turned into a building

Brown lunch bags decorated then stuffed with newspaper could become buildings.

Lots of more wonderful books about architecture can be found on YouTube. Here are just a few more...
