This year you will have a special place to sit when you come to our art class.I'm going to show you those special places now.

I want you to listen for your name. When you hear your name come over to me.

Welcome to art class! We are going to have an exciting year together in art, full of discovery
and art making. We will draw, collage, paint, and make sculpture. We are going to learn
what it means to be an artist and how to work like an artist because we are all artists.

Now we are going to create some art....

Think about something beautiful (Envision)
-think about something you love
-what do you think is really cool?
Can you draw a picture of that ? Can you glue down shapes to make a picture?

Use your imagination to make something beautiful.

paper shapes/newspaper

Yesterday we learned about an artist named Wayne Thiebaud.

What did Wayne Theibaud love to make art about? That's right, DESERTS!

Today we are going to learn about another artist, his name is James Rizzi. Then we will do art inspired by his ideas.

Is there something you love so much, you only ever want to make art about that thing?

Maybe it's sports, or cats, or cars...

There was an artist named Wayne Thiebaud, who loved sweet treats. He loved how beautiful they were, how unique they were and how interesting they were to look at, especially in a bakery when they are all lined up. He decided he only wanted to make art about DESERTS.

 

You can make art like Wayne Thiebaud. 

Think of something you are interested in, and draw three of them really large on the paper. 

Maybe it's ice cream cones, maybe it's fish, maybe it's cupcakes. 

Draw with a pencil first, then trace with a sharpie, then color with crayons.

Don't forget to draw a line behind the objects for your table and add shadows. The shadows should be the same color as your table, just much darker.

Instructions: Students will be designing their clothing, and coloring it in using oil pastel. 
Students will choose the paint that matches their hair color, and paint their hair using tempera paint.
